Position Type
Permanent

Overview

hVIVO are currently seeking an Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Biostatistician to join the hLab team based at our London Canary Wharf site.

This is a key operational role within our specialist infectious disease contract laboratory, that has overall responsibility for delivery of the NGS capabilities. This includes designing, developing and using computational tools utilising the NGS platform for applications such as variant calling, gene expression analysis, genotyping, metagenomics and whole genome sequencing.

The role will be highly collaborative, working closely with NGS vendors, and internal and external stakeholders to analyse, interpret and present results and overall conclusions. Strong skills in programming, statistics, and knowledge of genetics are essential, with a focus on accuracy, quality control, and data integrity. NGS experience in the drug discovery field is advantageous.

This is a site-based role

Main Responsibilities

  • Pipeline & Tool Development: Create, maintain, and improve computational workflows and algorithms for analysing large NGS datasets, ensuring they meet quality and accuracy standards.
  • Database Development & Curation: Design, build, and maintain databases for storing and accessing genetic variants and related knowledge resources.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Process raw NGS data to identify genomic alterations (e.g., variants, amplifications, deletions), differentially expressed genes, and other biological insights aligned with the project goals.
  • Data Management & Quality Control: Implement processes for data organisation, storage, backup, and quality assessment at various stages of the NGS workflow.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensure compliance with data protection regulations, and support quality management systems.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work with other bioinformaticians, lab scientists, and clinical staff to design experiments, interpret results, and implement bioinformatics solutions into hLab client driven capabilities.

Skills & Experiences

A Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field is essential along with a strong understanding of genetics, genomics, and applications of NGS technology in the drug discovery field.

Proficiency in designing, presenting and discussing NGS based solutions with clients to achieve project goals is also an essential requirement.

Experience of working with and utilising Illumina instrumentation and associated workflows and products, combined with expertise in using Dragen software would be advantageous.

NGS experience in the drug discovery field is desired.
